I am not normally too keen on the idea of making resolutions, but this year is different. I have had a great past year as far as writing goes. Starting this blog this past summer was the encouragement I needed to write more and I don’t want to lose that ambition and sense of accomplishment that writing can bring.
However, school followed summer and so did the stress. Soon fitting in writing everyday became an impossibility and I found myself completely consumed with school. Winter break is the time off I need to reflect on the past semester. While school proved hectic and didn’t permit for much free time, I think my anxieties and stresses could have been, somewhat, alleviated from taking time to write, just putting pen to paper. This year I’m setting out to write everyday. Not necessarily blog everyday, but writing something, anything, everyday.
I realized that resolutions don’t have to be something so lofty that you’re setting yourself up for failure. They can be something as easy as smiling more or being more spontaneous. Think about your weaknesses and work on them. Think about your strengths and build on them.
Going off of this, it’s only fair that I offer up my resolutions:
1.) Write everyday
2.) Say ‘no’ more often
I’ve realized that constantly agreeing to do things you don’t want to do doesn’t bring you closer to friends; it just makes you angry that they are “taking up your free time”. If you want time for yourself, be up front and honest. This helps both parties because when you do say ‘yes’ people will know it’s out of genuine interest.
3.) Be more spontaneous
4.) “What’s your excuse?”
Whenever I find that I am talking myself out of doing something that would be good for me, be it going to the gym or stepping out of my comfort zone, I will ask my self “what’s your excuse?” and if it doesn’t seem like a real reason I’ll push forward and go through with whatever it is.
5.) Spend more time alone
After living alone this summer I learned that I truly value time spent on my own. It’s hard to come by between school and friends, but I intend on making it a priority because I know that I need time alone every day to “recharge” and re-energize.
6.) Learn something new everyday.
Any other good ideas for resolutions?

My thought. Stand outside with eyes firmly closed, on any fine morning, and just breath in the air! Inhale and exhale. Then, slowly open your eyes and see.
find time to have fun. Even adults need laughter and to play.
definitely! something that a lot of us forget
I don’t do resolutions. No reason, just don’t. So I am not a good candidate to offer suggestions for them. However I will say this……your list sounds like a really good start. The secret to resolutions is not figuring out what to resolve…it’s figuring out how to achieve the results you desire. There you have it, my only words of wisdom on this topic. Hope you are not too disappointed!!!
